In the beginning, there was only the vast ocean, and an island in that ocean. There was no time, no day, no night, and there was no life but for two eggs. On the land, there was a hard-shelled egg, and in the ocean a soft-shelled egg. From the hard egg there was born in an explosion of fire a great bird of red plumes who grew instantaneously into adulthood, and continued to grow to an immense size. Then, life blossomed on the island and in the ocean, a great jungle forming, and the land grew and split until other islands and all land which now exists came to be.
